To our NY State Racing friends:
The 150th anniversary of the City of Welland is sure to be a historic one
with part of the festivities including the inaugural "The Welland Race"
weekend.

With a Saturday downtown Criterium and a Sunday Road Race on the schedule,
you won't want to miss out.

Many of Ontario's top riders should be in attendance as they prepare for the
Provincial Road Race.

Another beautiful night at the July 29 Track training series, low
winds and warm weather made for some fast races. A total of 17 riders
made their way to Holland speedway.

The format tonight was an 8 lap scratch races with Ben Jamesson (
Shickluna) winning the sprint from Joe Halter (Handlebars), Jim Cowle
(Wachovia Securities Cycling Team), Mike Luther (Handlebars) and Adam
Trost (The Bike Shop) were not far behind.

Next up was a little different format, we had 2 heats with the top 6
from the last race, split between the 2 group and riders filling the
empty spots for each heat. The first heat finished up with Ben
Jamesson, Frank Mesi (French Meadow Bakery/Fortistar), Jim Cowle and
Mike Luther. The next heat saw Joe Halter, Mike Bridges, and Steve
Forrester (Job One), and Milosz Nowak (Handlebars) completing the
final foursome.

All the rest now made up the bracket for a special race with the top
3 getting prizes donated by the East Aurora BIKE SHOP, Thanks again.
The riders really appreciate the racing for items. The 6 lap race saw
Steve Toorongian (Ingram Micro)breaking away for the final 2 laps,
Frank Grillo ( Job One) was second and Greg Jenson ( The Bike Shop)
was third.

The final for the 4 lap sprint, had a 4 up sprint that had the judges
asking each other who was 1st thru 4th . A photo finish would have
helped but by the crowd the finished showed Joe Halter 1st, Ben
Jamisson, Frank Mesi, Mike Bridges all within a wheel at the finish.
That would have made a great photo. Mike Luther was not far behind
for 5th.

The Feature race was a 16 lap point race with 5 sprints, the points
went as follows:

Bridges, Halter, Mesi
Mesi,Halter,Bridges
Steve T, Milosz, Kina
Cowle,Halter, Mesi
Mesi,Brigdes,Cowle

Final placing:
Mesi, 8 points, Bridges, 6 points, Halter,6 points, Cowle 4points and
Steve T with 3points.

After a night of races, the Omnium had Joe Halter with 15 points, Ben
Jamisson with 12 Points ( made only 2 races), Frank Mesi 10 points,
Mike Bridges 7 points and Jim Cowle 5 points.

Dave Bisnius and Frank Grillo decide to continue the pain and did one
lap TT, Dave clocked a 34.11 and Frank 35.48. Well done after all the
racing.

Now for the question of the day, a clear night no wind and where are
the riders. Ask anyone that comes here, this is the best training
race series in Buffalo for your speed. It may be a ride to get here
but no one who comes leaves with anything left in their legs.
HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON. TRACK IS AGAIN NEXT WEEK!!!!!

Track results from 7/15/08

A small but select group of riders showed for the 2nd official track night, and it was a beautiful night to race. Little or no wind and a night time temp in the high 70’s made for some fast racing.

The first event was a one lap TT, I have to say that the times were impressive. Mike Bridges had the fastest time a quick 31:17 for the one lap, better by almost a minute from his time in May at our first event. Next 4 was Joe Halter (Handlebars)31:46, Ben Jamesson ( Shickluna) 32:46, Frank Mesi (French Meadow Bakery) 32:62, Mike Luther (Handlebars)33:14.

Full List below, I still think if Jason put in the effort I would have seen my first sub 31. Maybe Larry Reade keeps records on these times but this looks to be the quickest times in some time. From the first night, some riders were 4sec faster, great night for speed.

The group did a 10 lap scratch race for a nice warm up. Joe Halter won the gallop to the finish with Ben Jamesson 2nd, Mike Bridges 3rd, nice job chasing me down, Ryan Nye(Preferred Care) 4th and Jason Skalski (Handlebars) 5th. Mike Farrell (Ingram Micro)and Chris Tirone (French Meadow Bakery) not far behid.

We did an 8 lap B race for some of our riders, where are the rest of B’s from this club you are missing out of a great time. John Moore took a close sprint from Dave Kina AGEdwards and Chris Dodd finished 3rd, with Janel Bedard (Preferred Care) following for 4th.

The feature races was a 30 lap scratch race with primes donated from the BIKE SHOP in East Aurora. Thanks for the prizes. With prime sprints the pace was quick and eyes were popping when the speed were hit 30+ during the ride. Primes were won by Scott Farrell, Frank Mesi, Joe Halter and Ben Jamesson and Mike Luther. The finish had another close sprint with Joe Halter and Ben Jamesson. The rest of the places were filled by Ryan Nye, Frank Mesi and Mike Luther.

Overall Joe Halter 1st, Ben Jamesson 2nd, Mike Bridges 3rd, Ryan Nye 4th, Frank Mesi 5th

1 lap TT
Mike Bridges 31:17
Joe Halter 31:46
Ben Jamisson 32:46
Frank Mesi 32:62

Chris Tirone 33:46
Ryan Nye (no warm up) 33:66

It was truly a great day of racing Sunday in Boston NY. The weather held out and the competition was fierce. Thanks to all the athletes that came out and made this a fantastic event. Thanks to our sponsors for their generous contributions. And many thanks to our club members and cycling community that came out to help host the NYS Road Race Championship. Results

I would like to dedicate all of our hard work and the success of this event to our friend and team mate Tim Putman. Tim was signed up early and ready to race. Lets not forget him when we count our blessings. I know he was looking down and very proud to be part of our club. Part of our success was because of him. Thanks Tim, You will always be part of the Buffalo Bicycling Club.

It is with great sadness that I write this post. Our friend and fellow club member Tim Putman was tragically killed this morning in a motorcycle accident. Tim was an active member of our racing club. To loose a member of our club is truly one of the saddest days. Tim was really one of the good ones. Our heart goes out to the Putman family. Please keep Tim In your thoughts and prayers.

We had a good turn out for the first night of racing at ECC. About 40 riders showed up for the training night. Other than Ryan catching his pedal in turn one the night went well. We had an A & B race. The B race was instructional for the first 20 laps, then full racing for the last 10 laps. I think we will keep a portion of the B race instructional for at least a few more weeks. I will have a few of the seasoned A's ride with the B group. The A race was full racing from the start with 40 laps. Ben Jamesson took the honors followed closely by Joe Halter. Mike Bridges and Chris Tirone were not far behind.

Next week will be the start of the points series. the points will be 5 places with 7,5,3,2,1 awarded. We will need to do a little better next week with marshals. There were a number of cars on the course, and this will be unavoidable. We must do a better job of managing this. I will ask again next week for volunteers from each race to marshal for the other race, please help when you can. The one thing I will insist on is that we treat everyone on campus with respect. No yelling or swearing please. We did have one small incident last night at the finish line and that was one to many.

Thanks very much to everyone that helped last night.

Congratulations to Laura Igoe, of Tom's Pro Bike/Plan2Peak, on her 2 Masters National Titles. Laura took home the Stars and Stripes in the road race and time trial. Corfu East Road Race – Sunday - April 06, 2008

Race Director: Duane Wisniewski

Marshals: Shelley Isaacs, Cathy Forrestel for Steve

Report: Weatherwise, one of the best opening days ever and a great turnout. No real attacks in either race until the end of each one. In the A's, Peter Cummings (Tom's Pro Bike/Plan2Peak) flew off the front with less than a half-lap to go, and took advantage of a tailwind on the finishing straight to hold off Scott Farrell (Ingram Micro) and Ben Willis (Wachovia), whose chase came up seconds short. John Garrett (Handlebars) took the pack sprint for 4th place. In the B's, David Van Horn (Bert's Bikes/Fuji Bikes) took off with over a lap to go and easily soloed in for the win, 40 seconds over the peleton. Jason Gabreski (Ingram Micro) edged out Bob Patterson (Tom's Pro Bike/Plan2Peak) by a wheel to take the pack sprint for 2nd.

The season opener is upon us, and many of you are still not prepared administratively.

Many of you have still not renewed your memberships, and of those of you that have renewed, very few of you remembered to also send in a completed USCF standard release form.
Please get these to me in the mail in the next day or two so that I have them by saturday, and I do not have to deal with this at the race on Sunday.

You may also fax these forms to me beginning on Thursday as I should have my fax machine up and running by then. The number is 674-9274

Also remember to renew your USCF license and print out the receipt to show at the race or you will be forced to purchase a 1-day license for $5.00.

Everyone also needs to sign up for a marshaling duty. If you have not contacted Harry Slocum or myself by April 7th, you will be randomly assigned a race. Failure to fulfill your assignment will result in your suspension from all BBC events until you have made it up.
We still need at least two more marshals for the opening race on Sunday, April 6th.
Remember that you can have any competent adult marshal for you.

Team directors also need to get me their rosters asap. Again, try to either mail or fax it to me so that I get it by Saturday. Team fees can be paid to me at the race this weekend or the races the following weekend.

Thanks.
Duane

After starting 4 weeks ago on the scorched plains of the greater Pendleton area, the Race to the Sun reached the sunny, verdent hills of Marilla on Sunday. With a warm breeze at our back, the pack rolled down the main street of Marilla, amid the cheers of various stary dogs and free range chickens. With some small hills and a decent selection of crosswinds, the course held the potential to break things up a bit and promote some more aggressive racing, maybe. The first move of the day found Dorfman and Burget off the front, gaining a couple minutes over the slumbering pack. Despite a large field of about 30 and a pretty flat course, the field showed no great interest in the two riders who were vanishing well up the road. After maybe 20 miles, the two off the front cracked and it was all even, so a series of attacks started, but the hills were not quite steep or long enough to get the job done. After a long spell of the attack-weld-regroup cycle, a group of about 10 remained. On the bell lap, Skalski noodled off the front and just kept going, going, gone. On the last time up the rolling hills, Roden, Nye and Halter rolled off the remaining group, but a tactical Halter said no dice and Nye said fiddlesticks to Halters non-work ethic, so Roden joined in the inaction and a perfectly good little spilt was re-absorbed by the dwindling pack. Garret and Youhess both launched nice "Hail Mary" attacks from the 1K kite but were reabsorbed as the sprint wound up. Nye led the sprint out from a goodly ways, Halter tried to come over the top on the windy side, reconsidered and tried to sneak by on the white line but ended up on the shoulder, bounging his way into third behind Nye. Roden slogged in for 4th. with Farrel rounding out the remaining points.

Weekend Buffalo Giro Dispatch by John Roden

March 2, 2008

The first weekend of racing in the Buffalo Giro Series has now been written in the history books and packed away in our collective memories as a special time out on the highways and byways of northern Erie county.

Saturday's race saw the southtown's blanketed in white, but a last minute recon trip by Ryan Nye in the mighty S-10 showed the roads to the north to be devoid of snow, scenery or much of anything to stop the wind. With a temperature in the high 20's and a raking wind from the northwest, only a hardy and dedicated band of cyclists shoved off from the bike shop read the full article

The GVCC is running a separate Giro series in Rochester. They have invited Buffalo racers to take part. www.gvccracing.com

Mike Loranty of the Wachovia Cycling Team has been training in New Zealand. He sent us a few pictures. Mike has his family there with him. It looks like the riding is really something special.

The Giros start in one week and I have a couple of things to note. There are a number of registered riders that have omitted their license numbers. You NEED to have a current license to race, no exceptions. Don't get turned away on race morning as we need to have licenses to ensure coverage. You can renew online if you have not done so already.

The Marilla race will be on the west course. The race starts at the school with a neutral ride to the start line. There will be no sign in at the start line so make sure you get there early enough to sign in. The same goes for the Lockport race. The race starts at Handlebars with a neutral ride to the start line.

There are some Category 4 and 5 entries in the A race. The A race is for category 1,2, and 3 riders. Category 4 and 5 riders will race in the B race, unless you have been approved to race in the A race by Jim Costello.

Both of these teams are poised to make a big impact this year on the local and regional racing scene. Please join us in welcoming these new sponsors to the BBC.

Some of our club members enjoying a training camp in Las Vegas. This shot is from lake Mead. Coach Peter Cummings has held this Camp for a good number of years now. Sure does look inviting.
