A crowd gathered under threatening skies tonight in downtown Buffalo as Western New York's finest put on a show to behold. The attacks came fast and furious from lap one as the ever-present Shickluna, Rochester's MVP Health Care, Handlebars Cycle Co., and more threw it down in the battle for series points. A select group finally made it stick, leaving the capacity pack fighting for scraps. In the end, it was the Shickluna green machine that proved too much. Jay Joslyn, Shickluna, took the honors with the always aggressive Dan Staffo, Handlebars, close in tow. Ken Thomas, Wells Fargo Advisors, took 3rd and was closely followed by series leader Mike Bridges, Shickluna, in 4th. Corey Knowles, ROG, rounded out the points with a strong 5th place finish.
Tonight also saw a Buffalo first, as three riders from the fixed gear community proved you don't need shifters or brakes to rip up the crit course. Steven Acanros, Joe Piehler, and Peter Canfield raced five laps at full blast in front of an enthusiastic crowd of roadies and spectators. To learn more about the flourishing Buffalo fixed gear scene, we recommended you stop by and chat with the gang at Positive Approach on Elmwood Ave. Great job guys!
The B-Race was controlled from start to finish by the series dominating Wells Fargo Advisors, but it was Steve Wells, Ingram Micro, who stole the win with a powerful sprint and a defiant roar. Mike Cormier, Wells Fargo Advisors, continued his podium ways for 2nd, as did Brian Rohr, Wells Fargo Advisors, in 3rd; Steve Toorongian, Ingram Micro, was 4th; Lance Johnson, Wells Fargo Advisors, 5th.
