Paul and Frank Mesi went to Virginia Beach for a cross race last Saturday and a Duathlon off road race the next day. It was cold but not snowy like Buffalo. Frank placed 3rd in the Master 45 race, and Paul was 11th in the 123 race. Paul had a great start, bridged up to the leaders on the first lap, but rolling his rear tire and had to running back to the pit, got a wheel change, but lost almost 2min to the leaders. Chased hard for a lap but need another change with his front wheel, back in the race and still finished on the lead lap. So in all not a bad day, for a couple of snow bunnies, racing in the south. The next day Paul did the 5k run, 20k bike, 5k run. He started very good winning the first part of the run, and coming back first on the bike, he loss a little time getting off the race course, LOL. But a mile from the finish, found out what bonking is all about, walking some of that last mile. Guess shoving snow is good for strength not running stamina. A great weekend of racing for Ridley/French Meadow team.
Thanks to everyone that came to the awards banquet last night. it was an excellent night of cycling related gibber. A special thanks to our guest speakers Todd Sheske and Scott Page. They really gave us a good feel for what is coming with the Tour de New York, how it came about, and how we can be a part of it.
Scott said this will not be a linear event starting on one end of the state and crossing to the other side. Scott and Todd say they have broken some of the rules of Professional Stage Racing. Its not normal for a Pro stage race to have a criterium stage, Tour de New York will. It's not normal for a Pro Stage Race to have a category race as part of a stage, Tour de New York will.
As you can see this will not be your normal Professional Stage Race. Did you expect that from Western New Your? What this will be Scott said, is a show case of the Finger Lakes Region and Up State New York.
Lets give our support to the Tour de New York. It will be the biggest thing in Bicycle Racing to come to our region.
Tour de New York Event Founder Scott Page and Promoter Todd Sheske will be our guests at the BBC Awards Banquet. Come get first hand information on the newest UCI 6 day stage race. The Banquet is Saturday November 15. flyer

Paul leading the race mid way thru the 1 hour event, before placing 2nd to Gardner.
NY State Cyclocross Championships
Camillus, NY
2008
The New York State Cyclocross Championships took place on a picture perfect day, yesterday in Camillus, NY. The race promoters did a terrific job setting up the course at the Camillus Town Park and included a variety of terrain and obstacles for the riders. Some of the more notable sections of the course; a steep single track descent followed by a 180 turn to a sharp embankment, followed by two others of similar size and length but with the addition of a few roots to make things very tricky. Some long grassy sections also sapped the riders legs over the event along with some wide switch backs through a tree’d section of the park.
All of the above terrain proved a benefit to Western New York newest team, Ridley/The Bike Shop/French Meadow and one Handlebars rider. In the Masters 35+ race, East Aurora’s Chris Tirone (Ridley) quickly sped away from the 40+ rider field and built up a 30 second lead on the chasing pack. Eventually, Raman Mira De Ordua, a German National made contact with Chris and the two quickly increased their lead over the chasers. After attacks and counter attacks, the two were locked together in what should have lead to a two up sprint for the win; but unfortunately lapped riders would help determine the finish as Chris was forced to hit the brakes and take silver.
In the men’s cat 3- 4 event; Ridley’s new upstart, Paul Mesi would show New York State cyclocrossers that his multiple top 10 finishes in the Elite races this season were no fluke. After a slow start followed by a crash; Paul would accelerate out in front of this 40+ rider field and essentially cruise to victory. Way to go Paul! His Dad; Frank, was also in the race and would have a respectable finish in 18th place. Later in the day; Paul would jump into the Elite Men’s race where he would ride in the top 5 until the day’s earlier race and crash took its toll and Paul would pull out with 3 laps to go. Strongman Dan Staff (Handlebars) would finally earn the Gold Medal that he has worked so hard for this year, followed by Eric Grimm of Rochester in 2nd place.
Equally as exciting was NY State Jr Road Champion Joe Cooke’s first cyclocross state championships where he faced multiple time NY State Champion and top national finisher xxx. Joe would get a great start and hold 2nd place for about a third of the race; eventually he dropped back to third where he would finally come in to claim the Bronze medal. For the season Joe completed a hat trick with the NY State Jr. Road Racing Gold Medal, Silver in the Time Trial and Bronze in cyclocross. Way to go Joe!!
All in all a very good showing for the new Ridley Team with the promise of more good results for the future.
Results from the Romp in The Swamp Cyclocross race.
